Few things work better at getting people shopping than coupons. As an e-commerce business, you most probably have a variety of coupons you use, each for various purposes.

Samba gives your coupons new life, by giving you the means of inserting your unique coupon codes into your various email campaigns. Read ahead to learn how.

Generating Coupons on your e-Shop

Before you get started in Samba, you’ll have to generate discount codes from within your e-shop.

Please keep in mind that the following guide is only for unique coupon codes. If you don’t use unique coupons then consider inserting a banner/message into a sale-focused, personalized email.

When creating your coupons, you’ll have to first estimate the amount you’ll need based on forecasting as well as the advertising support you want to give it. Once the coupons in the tray run out, the email campaign will cease. With that said though, the contents of a coupon “stack” can always be updated in real time. The same is true if you have a discount voucher in a welcome campaign.

After generating the coupons, you’ll have to export them to a CSV file with each coupon code on a separate line. This file will be used in the next step.

Adding Coupons to Samba

Once your CSV is created, head over to your Samba account and navigate to your Settings (see image below).

From there, click on Coupons to reach the Coupons page (see image below).

From there, click on the “+ Add coupon pool” button (see image below).

After that, you’ll see a pop-up where you can set certain settings of the coupon pool, including:

  • Coupon pool name
  • Expiration date
  • Upload options

While you can add the coupon codes manually, you should have your CSV from the previous step handy and can easily upload it by clicking the “Upload file” button.

If you want to export your coupon history, including if and when a customer received a coupon, click the “Export History to CSV” button. This is useful in certain situations, including verifying the issuance of a coupon. Please note, the exported file is in a CSV format, with the following columns: customerId, email, sendTime, poolName, and couponCode.

Inserting a Coupon into an Email

To get started, first navigate to the campaign you wish to add a coupon code to and from its settings go to the email design.

From within the editor, identify a place within the email where you want the coupon to appear and insert an HTML block there by clicking the “NEW HTML BLOCK” button.

Then add some text to the block by clicking the TEXT icon (see image below) and dragging it to the newly-created block.

After which you should have a field to enter text within, as shown below:

Click within the text field and an editing menu will pop up. From there, click the Gift icon all the way on the right (as highlighted below).

From the list, select which coupon you want to insert.

Once added, it should look something like this:

In addition, you can also paste the coupon into a button, allowing you to enhance the look of the coupon or provide something for them to “act on”. To do this, simply click and drag the “BUTTON” icon (as shown below) to the HTML block.

After that, click on the field, making sure the text of the button is empty, and from the menu click “Coupon” (as shown below) and select which coupon you want to use.

Either way, you will see the value of the coupon shown in the email preview. Please keep in mind that Samba will automatically include one of the included coupon code values to each personalized email.

As we have mentioned elsewhere, adding coupons to your Welcome Campaigns are a great way to incentivize your shoppers. Doing so can be accomplished in the exact same manner.
