Click tracking

There are two approaches regarding click tracking in the newsletter:

  • Default – easy setting up, uses tracking script
  • CTR Booster – advanced approach that uses Samba.ai Tracking Engine and its algorithms for greater accuracy in identifying clicks and measurability.

You can change the click tracking type in your Integration settings.

How to set up a tracking type

  • In the upper right menu of the application, select Account Settings → Integrations → Email Click Tracking (located at the bottom of the settings, under the “Customer Tracking” section).
  • Here, choose whether you want to use default tracking type or CTR Booster.
  • After selection, the change will be reflected in the settings. If you select CTR Booster, you must have the CNAME record set up correctly.

After changing the tracking type, the information will be reflected in the settings. You should now see that the click tracking type is set to “CTR Booster.” At the same time, however, we can see below that the relevant CNAME record has not yet been set.

CNAME

After updating the CNAME record it can take up to 48 hours for the CNAME to be valid

If the CNAME record was set up properly, your Email Click Tracking section will turn green and you are ready to track your clicks via Redirects.

Types of tracking

Type: Default

Pros: No special requirements – all you need is to have the Samba.ai tracking script installed on the target domain. A simple and fast way to measure conversions.

Cons: Lower identification of clicks on your campaigns and lower identification of your customers. Clicks may be lost and not counted due to incorrect implementation of the tracking script, cookie settings at the target address, or blocking by Ad-block.

Type: CTR Booster

Pros: Uses Samba.ai Tracking Engine with advanced algorithms for maximum measurability. Measures 100% of all clicks..

Cons: CNAME record has to be set up.

Recomendations

We highly recommend using tracking via CTR Booster. You will get more accurate measurements and more identified customers.

Setting up CTR Booster

First select a tracking subdomain. You can choose any subdomain according to your preference, but the subdomain should match your sending domain so that the recipient sees consistent links.

We recommend subdomains for example track.*, click.*, t.*, c.*.

Example 1: sender: newsletter@eshop.com → tracking subdomain: click.eshop.com

Example 2: sender: info@newsletter.eshop.com → tracking subdomain: click.eshop.com

Once you select your subdomain, you need set up a CNAME record for it.

The CNAME record should be set up just like this:

  1. Type: CNAME

  2. Name (Host): selected subdomain, for example click.eshop.com

  3. Value: please use value shown in  your Samba.ai account (Integration > Email Click Tracking)

If CNAME record is removed

If the CNAME record is later broken, we will automatically send new emails with the original links so that links were working. Unfortunately previously sent emails will not be working until the CNAME record is fixed again.

Changing the subdomain

If you ever wish to change the subdomain – you can. We maintain previously set subdomains as long as the CNAME record is set, so redirect links will be still working in previously sent emails.

Switching to Default tracking

If you ever want to use default tracking, you can. We keep historically used subdomains as long as their CNAME record is still valid. This means that old links that used CTR Booster with a subdomain will still work, even if you use default tracking.
